David was born in Williamsburg, Virginia on September 16, 1971. He was involved in acting in theatre as a child, and directed his first play at Lafayette High School, in Williamsburg. During college at the University of Virginia, David was heavily involved in the theatre program there, acting in numerous plays, and directing such plays as Sartre's "No Exit", "The Indian Wants the Bronx," and Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd." It was during his time at UVa that David also developed an interest in film, and directed his first film there, entitled "Fair is Foul, and Foul is Fair." He then went on to New York University, directing a number of films there, before attending the University of Southern California, in the Fall of 1995. David has directed a number of notable short films, including "His Little Girl," "Pain," and "Dinner," his thesis film.
